Fertility Acupuncture Adelaide
Integrating the best of Natural Medicine
Through my approach of the correction of any underlying imbalances I assist in creating a healthy and fertile body. Pregnancy becomes easier to achieve, maintain and postpartum recuperation happens faster.
TCM is often used throughout the prenatal period to prevent or control pregnancy related disorders and to reduce the risk (if one exists) of threatened miscarriage.
In the pursuit of providing the best possible start to life for our babies, the holistic practice of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is often employed by women who are preparing to be mothers, pregnant women and those women and men who are experiencing difficulties in becoming parents.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Naturopathic therapies are effective in correcting many of the imbalances which underlie the complex physical and hormonal disorders which prevent pregnancy.
Also combining TCM and conventional Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) or In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
Preconception – Planning for a Healthy Baby
In Chinese medicine there is the expression “cultivating the soil before planting the seed” which is consistent with the concept of the pre-conception period being vital to fertility and the health of the baby.
In essence, the health of the baby is dependent on the quality of the egg and sperm, which is actually determined during the three months prior to conception.
The health of the parents before and at the time of conception, and the mother’s health during the early stages of her pregnancy have an influence on the health of the baby.
Natural fertility Treatment…
When skillfully applied, acupuncture therapy and Chinese herbal medicine are effective in correcting many of the imbalances which underlie the complex physical and hormonal disorders which prevent pregnancy.
The benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for those seeking to enhance fertility can be found in the techniques that assist in the regulation the menstrual cycle, invigoration of the sperm and the enhancement of the whole body function through the balancing of the endocrine system.
These treatments also provide a blood rich uterine lining favorable for implantation and for nourish a growing foetus for the full nine months .
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Timing and consistency of treatment, for women, whether having acupuncture or taking herbs, is of primary importance as there are specific hormonal adjustments that can be made at each week of the cycle.
Missing a week of treatment may lose an important opportunity to heal a particular segment of the four phase menstrual cycle.
It takes a minimum of three consecutive cycles (twelve treatments) to do the foundation work of regulation regardless of biological age.
If there are menstrual problems, then treatment must proceed until at least 3 normal cycles are achieved.
From there, you should give yourself at least 6 months to achieve pregnancy.
Combining TCM and conventional Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) or In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF).
TCM can be used to strengthen and balance one’s general health so that IVF and other fertility procedures are more effective.
Acupuncture can help improve the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, which has been found to be a great determinant in the success of assisted reproductive techniques.
|The latest research into acupuncture and IVF has shown that women who receive properly timed and performed acupuncture treatments have a 60% increase in ongoing pregnancies.|
Chinese medicine can help alleviate the side-effects of medical treatments, improving the response to hormonal stimulation.
Women who continue treatments after embryo transfer (preferably throughout the first trimester) have higher ongoing pregnancy rates.
Miscarriage rates are much higher for pregnancies that result from hormonal stimulation.
TCM is also used to help alleviate some of the tension which is inherent in these extremely stressful procedures.
Here are a few common effects of stress:
• Stress can affect the hypothalamus, which affects a women’s ability to ovulate.
• Stress leads to the adrenals borrowing more progesterone to make more adrenal hormones. Therefore chronic stress can lead to lowers progesterone levels.
• Stress can increase cortisol levels, which can blocks progesterone receptors and interfere with the embryo implanting into the uterine lining.
• Stress can increase prolactin levels and interfere with ovulation.
How many sessions before ART do I need?
If you are already beginning your IVF cycle. I typically recommend four treatments as these are performed at specific times during the cycle. If there are complicating factors, more may be required.
If you are not yet beginning your IVF cycle, it is a good idea to have a consultation with me before deciding on a treatment plan.
During the visit, I will perform a non-invasive physical exam. Based on the results, make recommendations as to the duration and frequency of treatments.
Dealing with any imbalances prior to the transfer can greatly enhance your chances of a successful IVF pregnancy.
